My experiences working with ESL Job Link have been very good. The recruiter always stayed in contact with me when I needed to take the next step in the application process. Also, the recruiter would respond quickly to my questions via text message, email or phone call. ESL Job Link was very easy to work with. There were smooth transitions between gathering documents, interviews with Korean schools and interviewing at the consulate in Chicago.
I really enjoy working with my school and with my students. I¡¯m teaching in Inje, a small town with minimal English, so I am getting a better Korean experience learning the language and the culture. I work with students aged 5-13, but mostly with 8-10 year olds. They are at the perfect age where they¡¯re just old enough to grasp the language and they are eager to learn. I look forward to teaching them everyday and play games and do activities wit them.
Inje offers many outdoor activities to do, even though it¡¯s very small. Mountains with many hiking paths surround Inje, and you can easily spend an afternoon climbing to the top and stopping at the lookout points. Inje also has many places to play screen golf, bungee jumping, paragliding, river rafting and ATVing. Inje is about one hour from Chuncheon and one hour from Sokcho. Chuncheon is a huge city with many things to offer like shopping and great restaurants. Sokcho is on the East coast of Korea, so there is great seafood, bar and clubs, things to tour around the city and the beach.
For other candidates applying, honestly, things seem crazy and overwhelming at times; especially in the beginning. But you will soon find your schedule and daily routine and grow to love teaching and living in Korea. I highly recommend a position like this to anyone wanting to become a teacher or wanting to work in the education field. It¡¯s a great year of teaching under your belt and the year truly flies by!
Also, living in Korea you can meet tons of people from all corners of the globe. In Inje, there are four Americans (including myself), four South Africans, one New Zealander and one Brit. Being in Asia also gives you many opportunities to travel!
So come teach English now or forever wish you had!
